Monday Musings #4 - Playing Blue Prince

Welcome back to my Monday Musings: a random collection of thoughts, musings and ideas.

A month ago, I started playing Blue Prince.

I’ve played almost every evening since I started. I can’t stop. It's so addictive.

It’s a fascinating puzzle game where you build a mansion one room at a time. Some rooms seem useless, some have mini-games, some have an intriguing mystery to solve, and others are downright confusing. Your goal? To reach the mysterious Room 46, in a mansion of only 45 rooms. But the catch? What you get each day is down to chance: random rooms and random items. You don’t get much choice. At first.

So you do what you can. You adapt. You wait for the right combinations to show up. You hold onto a vision of what you want to build, even when the pieces don’t quite fit. You get creative. You shift your goals. You follow a lead of another mystery. You look at what’s possible now.

And then something changes. The more you play, the more you unlock the ability to influence what appears. You can nudge probabilities. You can shift what shows up.

Suddenly you’re not just reacting to luck: you’re changing it.

So yes, this is one of those “what I learnt from X and apply to Y” posts. But Blue Prince is too good not to take advantage of it.

It’s got me thinking about how often we wait in life.

Waiting for the “right” role, the “perfect” time, the “ideal” conditions.

Sometimes, that waiting pays off.

Sometimes, it keeps us stuck.

The magic in Blue Prince is in both:

Learning when to pause, plan, and observe. To stop and look at what’s around you and realise something has been hiding right in front of you the entire time.

And learning when to act, nudge, and change your odds. You realise that you need to create the ideal circumstances for your plan to take effect.

So, what are you doing to change your luck? To create the right opportunities? Are you seeing the things that are right in front of you?

Life isn’t a game. But it definitely has some familiar mechanics.
